Find the closest compass heading and read the deviation.

E for easterly deviation.

W for westerly deviation.

On a compass heading of 080° the deviation is 5° east.

Keep it simple! Round down to the nearest degree.

3 1/2°W round to 3°W.

1 1/2°E round to 1°E.

1/2°E round to 0°.
